The New Agent Command Center: Claude Code Becomes an AI Developer Fleet Manager
Meet Agent View: Instead of getting lost between terminal tabs, Anthropic is launching a centralized management interface that allows you to run, monitor, and manage dozens of development tasks simultaneously—all under one roof.
Those who work with Claude Code, Anthropic’s agentic CLI tool, know its power: it doesn't just complete code, it actually "develops"—reading the codebase, running tests, fixing errors, and performing cross-file refactoring. But until today, when we wanted to run multiple tasks at once, we found ourselves with ten open terminal tabs or a dense tmux grid, trying to remember which agent finished and which was waiting for our approval.
The new update, Agent View, fundamentally changes this workflow, turning the terminal into an agentic control center.
No More Terminal Mess
Agent View is essentially a live Roster of all your open sessions. Instead of switching between windows, you simply run the command
claude agents (or click the left arrow within an existing session) to get a full snapshot.
Each row in the list shows the agent's status:
- •Working: The agent is currently writing code or running tests.
- •Waiting: The agent needs your approval (e.g., before executing a sensitive shell command).
- •Completed/Failed: Tasks that finished successfully or encountered an error.
How Does It Work in Practice?
The real magic lies in the ability to move tasks to the background and keep working.
- •Background Execution: You can start a new task directly in the background with the command
or move an active session to the background with theclaude --bg "fix the navigation bug"
command./bg - •Peek & Reply: You don't have to enter the full session to respond. You can highlight an agent in the list, press the spacebar to see its latest output, type a response or approval—and move on to the next agent.
- •Context Management: The system allows you to jump between different projects and Worktrees in the same interface, saving a lot of time spent "resetting" on the task.
Why Is This Important for Developers and Teams?
We are moving from the era of "AI as a writing assistant" to the era of "fleet agent management." A senior developer can now send five different agents on different tasks: one to update documentation, one to scan for security vulnerabilities, and one to write unit tests for a new component. While they work, the developer can focus on architecture or solving truly complex problems.
Anthropic is positioning Claude Code not just as a development tool, but as a kind of "Agent Ops" layer. Along with other features recently launched like Dreaming (the ability of agents to learn from past mistakes while they are "resting") and Multi-agent Orchestration, the power of the individual developer is multiplied many times over.
How to Get Started?
The feature is currently available in Research Preview for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers, as well as API users. To use it, ensure you are on the latest version (v2.1.139 or higher) by running
claude --version.
Then, simply type in the terminal:
claude agents
The Bottom Line: Agent View is a critical step toward making AI a truly autonomous team member. Instead of managing the tools, we are starting to manage the outputs. If you are building complex systems, this is a must-have tool in your toolkit.
